Many folks go to Pattaya, Thailand and celebrate some occasion while they are there. Whether it be an anniversary, birthday, divorce, or nothing in particular, there are plenty of party venues to schedule your special event.

I have been going to Thailand for over 30 years, have made numerous friends there both Thai and Expat and highly recommend the following venues:

1. The FLB bar owned by Martin and managed by Ricky down on Walking Street past the big tree this is a very friendly hostess bar that will cater to your every whim. For about 12,000 Baht, about 300 dollars, you will have the time of your life. Excellent food from the Sportsman bar, great, live entertainment from the Ugly Brothers band and some of the friendliest ladies in Pattaya. Martin also runs an excellent forum at pattayatalk.com.

2. Cherry Bar on Soi 8 and owned by a very friendly Brit Adam. Adam has devoted his life to making this bar successful on a street lined wall-to-wall with similar bars. He does an excellent job of promoting his quaint little bar and bends over backwards to make you feel at home. And, you don't even have to be a Brit to have a great time here.

3. Lennies Bar on Soi Diamond between Walking Street and 2nd Road Paul, the manager, will ease all of your worries and make you feel at home as soon as you walk in the door. As Eric Clapton said, this place will "ease you worried mind". Parties can be arranged easily just see Paul.

4. Tequila Queen #2 just off of Walking Street and partially owned by Bob of Bob's BBQ small, air-conditioned go-go bar that guarantees great food and a super time. It may be small, but the fun will be huge.

5. Secrets Bar Last but not least by any means. Ben used to be the manager at FLB but has moved onward and upwards and has set up his own bar, restaurant and hotel the Secrets Hotel and Bar. On Soi 14 just off of Walking Street Ben will ensure that you will have a super time. Ben is the host with the most and I have known him for over 7 years he will take care of all your needs. Ben also runs a great forum at pattayasecrets.com. The restaurant at Secrets food you would not believe, caters parties here.

So, if you are heading out to Pattaya, plan a party. It can be for any occasion or just for the heck of it.

Can you really get pizza in Pattaya, Thailand? Absolutely. Is it any good? Superb! Does this sound strange to you? It shouldn't. Some of the finest chefs in the world have made their homes in Thailand and have set up shop cooking some of the finest cuisine in the world.

I love Thai food and eat my share of rice and noodles with all the other spicy goodies that go along with them, but I also like to sample food from around the world. Pattaya is the perfect place to do this.

You can go to Don Joe's on Walking Street for an excellent pizza, The Sportsman Club for a superb "Full English" breakfast, or to the Big Horn restaurant for a 1 Kilogram steak.

If you have a craving for American food, it is readily available at Bob's BBQ and also at the New Orleans Café ribs that will make your mouth water all the way home.

German, Swiss and Belgian foods are readily available too. It seems like there is another fine restaurant every 10 feet in Pattaya. Mexican food can be had at the Tequila Reef and also at the Blue Parrot. You would never know that you are in Thailand with all the fine choices at these great restaurants.

And, if it is seafood that you crave, just walk along Beach Road or Walking Street and you will find quite a few restaurants with seafood on ice or swimming around waiting for you to make your catch. King's Seafood is one of the better restaurants with excellent tiger prawns and a beautiful view of the Gulf of Siam.

So, don't go to Thailand if you are planning on losing any weight. Go there to have a great vacation and a fine sampling of some of the culinary arts of Asia.

Udon Thani - Lao Airlines plans to penetrate the Indochina market by linking to the world heritage sites more. The inaugural Luang Phrabang-Udon Thani flight will begin on October 31.

The national airline of Laos offers flights between Udon Thani and Luang Phrabang to give convenience to tourists, according to Udon Thani Governor Sombat Trivatsuvan.

Two kinds of planes will be used on this route. They are 56-seat M60 and 70-seat ART72.

Two flights per week will be primarily available on Friday and Sunday.

The flight will leave Luang Phrabang at 10:45 am while leaving Udon Thani at 12:30 pm.

It takes fourty five minutes to travel between the two cities.

The round-trip ticket costs about 6,000 baht, 2,000 baht cheaper than the Luang Phrabang-Chiang Mai flight.

Lao Airlines also plans to offer the Vientiane-Savannakhet-Bangkok flights, and is considering opening flights on Savannaket-Danang and Xishuangbanna-Luang Phrabang route.

Thai court drops treason charges

Some powerful sections of Thai society support the protesters

Thailand's appeals court has thrown out insurrection charges against nine leaders of anti-government protests.

The court ruling said the treason charges were groundless.

But arrest warrants on lesser charges remain in force, and reports suggest the leaders may be willing to surrender to police. Two are already in custody.

Protesters have been occupying the grounds of government buildings for weeks, saying the government is a proxy for ousted PM Thaksin Shinawatra.

The protests turned violent on Tuesday, when two people were killed in clashes.

Way out of crisis?

"Although the nine suspects have committed illegal acts, it's unreasonable to issue an arrest warrant on insurrection charges, thus the court revokes insurrection charges for all nine suspects," said the Appeals Court ruling.

Arrest warrants remain on less serious charges, reportedly including that of illegal assembly.

Two leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), Chamlong Srimuang and Chaiwat Sinsuwong, were arrested last week - helping to spark Tuesday's violent protests.

A lawyer for the remaining seven has said they may be ready to surrender to police if the more serious charges were dropped - paving the way for a possible way out of this political stand-off, says the BBC's Jonathan Head in Bangkok.

Without their most charismatic leaders, he says, the protests at Government House would probably soon fade.

But he says the basic problem remains: the protesters' loathing for Thaksin Shinawatra and those perceived as his allies.

The new prime minister, Somchai Wongsawat - who has refused to bow to their demands to quit - is Mr Thaksin's brother-in-law.

Mr Thaksin was overthrown in a military coup in 2006 and lives in exile in the UK.

Bangkok - Somchai government went ahead presenting its policies to the parliament despite the absence of the opposition party, ignoring injured People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) protesters.

The People Power Party (PPP) MPs and coalition parties’ MPs gradually came to the parliament this morning to attend a parliamentary session to present the government’s policies.

The police previously fired tear gas and bullets to disperse the PAD demonstrators to pave way for the session.

Mr. Chaiya Poonkaew, 30, lost one of his legs during the police attack.

It was reported the police were firing tear gas at people who rallied at the Royal Plaza.

About 75 people were injured and sent to Vachira Hospital in Bangkok.

HM the Queen gave 100,000 baht to the hospital to help cure the injured victims.

High-end developers need to create broader appeal

Real estate developers targeting foreign buyers, especially those in tourist destinations, may need to adjust their business plans to make their products appeal to a wider group of potential customers, according to executives.
Udorn Olsson, managing director of Para Development Co, the developer of Panorama Pool Villa in Hua Hin, said the failure to endorse the bailout package by US congressmen would certainly impact the European markets where the majority of buyers of Thai high-end properties reside.
Therefore, developers may need to adjust themselves to survive in the new business environment, which may include accepting lower margins
For its part, Para Development plans a more proactive strategy by approaching customers rather than waiting for them to find out about its projects.
The company also needs to adjust its products and specifications to cater to the middle markets, as well as Thai buyers. Mr Udorn believes there are some Thai buyers who want to purchase properties during the slow market in anticipation of capital gains in the long term.
Para would offer more flexible payment terms and absorb fees at its own cost to ensure that buyers reserve units.
Despite the unfavourable global situation, Martin Phillips, managing partner of the master licence partner of the German real estate brokerage Engel & Volkers for Southeast Asia, still believes that property is the right investment.
He suggested developers in the high-end market offer a guaranteed yield to buyers, who are advised to select properties in well-managed resorts.
''I am convinced that this is a great opportunity for investors to seek a safer haven in resort properties with a good annual yield rather than risk catching a falling knife in the financial markets,'' Mr Phillips said.
He does not see a potential drop in property values in Thailand, as prices here are not subject to the same pressure as in the United States or the United Kingdom. There is no bubble or risk that loans will exceed their values in most resort markets and most purchases are made in cash.
However, transactions will slow somewhat because there will be fewer buyers, a scenario that will impact related industries such as construction. There will be some aligning of property prices driven by sellers who need to find buyers because they may have to meet other financial commitments. Under such a circumstance, there will be price reductions but only for some properties, not for entire segments.
Dilokpol Sundaravej, a partner and managing director of TGR Group, the developer of Jumeirah Phuket Island, said it was premature to make an analysis. The situation has not yet bottomed out and there will be more victims looking for financial aids announced in the future.
But so far, he believes that since property buyers in Phuket mostly used cash, any impact the crisis may have on liquidity in the market will be minimum.

Aviation downturn cuts Bafs' sales target

Bangkok Aviation Fuel Services, the country's largest jet refuelling provider, forecasts a worsening performance for the aviation industry in the coming quarter and has revised its sales projection downward. SET-listed Bafs saw its second-quarter revenue fall 1.6% year-on-year to 536 million baht, while net profit dipped 18.9% to 28.9 million baht. Its first-half profit was 264.98 million baht, down from 315 million a year earlier.

Bafs had set a target of increasing its revenue by 4.5% from around 1.5 billion baht posted in 2007. It now expects its 2008 revenue to be 5-6% under its 1.6- billion-baht projection, slipping 2-3% below last year's figure.

''We expect the situation to get worse in the third quarter than in the second quarter,'' managing director M.R. Supadis Diskul said yesterday.

''Bafs is a part of the aviation industry, which this year has been worst hit by the oil crisis and the slowdown in the global economy _ both have prompted airlines to cut flights, especially long-haul ones.''

Thai Airways International has suspended its direct flights to New York and Los Angeles, which is expected to cause a 10%-drop in Bafs' sales to the airline. Meanwhile, budget airline flights arriving at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang Airport have fallen since June to below last year's levels.

''Nok Air also has cut flights while One-Two-Go has suspended operations since last month (on safety concerns),'' said M.R. Supadis.

To cope with the declining business, Bafs has focused on reducing its expenditures, cutting training expenses and management perks. At the same time, land and non-performing assets are up for sale to generate an expected additional income of 100 million baht.

To counteract the impact of high prices, Bafs has also raised service charges at Don Mueang and two other provincial airports _ although scheduled flights, including those of Thai Airways International, Nok Airlines and One-Two-Go, have yet to be affected by price rises.

Since June, Bafs' fees have almost doubled from 55 satang to one baht a litre for services provided to private jets, charter and ad-hoc flights landing at Don Mueang Airport. Meanwhile, service fees at Samui and Sukhothai airports have gone up about 20% to 70 satang a litre since the beginning of this month, said M.R. Supadis.

However, he is optimistic that the aviation sector will experience a recovery before the end of the year.

''As oil prices including jet fuel have dropped, we hope that the aviation industry will start picking up in the fourth quarter with airlines starting to resume their flights for the high season,'' he said.

Laguna Phuket International Marathon 2008

A scenic route along some of Phuket’s most spectacular west coast bays makes this an event that attracts runners ready to achieve a personal best.
Some marathons shine brighter than others in this highly competitive field of events. The Laguna Phuket International Marathon is one of them, due its incredibly scenic route along some of the island’s best beaches and on roads that wind through shady rubber plantations.
Now in its third year, the marathon will attract as many a 1,500 runners from 40 countries, who will complete in a variety of events, 15 June, including the 42 km marathon, a half marathon, a 10.5 km and 5 km walk.
Of course, the fun starts on the evening of the 14 June when runners meet for the traditional pasta party, a carbo loading exercise to prepare them for the demanding races on the following morning. Laguna Phuket’s chef conjures up a mammoth buffet at the hotel, the official headquarters for the event, while Thai musicians and dancers entertain participants.
From the participants’ point of view, June is an ideal month to compete in a marathon as monsoon clouds gather over the Andaman Sea providing cover from what would otherwise be a scorching hot day.
This is Phuket’s traditional low season, so the event is billed as a tourism booster that attracts not only the runners, but also family members who travel to Phuket to cheer their kin to victory, or perhaps a personal best.
Another factor that benefits runners is the scenic route that takes them initially inland on a country lane to Thalang district and then northwest to Nai Yang beach through rubber plantations. A number of interesting attractions for example. can be visited via the Chao Phraya in Nonthaburi province a short trip from Bangkok by either public ferry or private hired boat. Just upstream from the attractive old Nonthaburi City Hall (dating from the reign of King Rama V) is Wat Chaloem Phra Kiat, a royal monastery constructed by command of King Rama III in the earlier 19th canary using bricks from an Ayutthaya-period fortress. There are several beautiful old temple buildings in the compound; one, the main shrine hall of Ubosot, has fine stucco designs decorated with porcelain on its gable and door and windows frames. while the interior walls are covered with superb mural paintings.

Not far away, in Amphoe Pak Kret, is Ko Kret, a river island settled by Mon people in the 19th century. A network of pleasant walkways leads Caroline the island. enabling visitors to see the life style of the people and the kilns in which they produce low-fired pottery; at the Ancient Mon Pottery House both old and new examples of classic designs are on display and sale. Wat Paramaiyikawat, at the northern extremity of the island is an old monastery; in Mon style with a large reclining Buddha and mural paintings.

Canoeing
Growing in popularity among ecology-minded travelers is the sport of sea canoeing, which offers adventure while also conserving the environment. Koh Pha-Ngan lies 20 kilometres to the north of Koh Samui. The island has become a popular escape for those who find its larger neighbour too developed. Koh Pa-Ngan is certainly less crowded and has beautiful beaches and an abundance of coral in the crystal clear waters.

The tiny island of Koh Tao covers less than 20 square kilometres but is known as one of the best dive sites in the Gulf of Thailand. The island is inhabited by around 750 people, mainly involved in fishing or tourism. Despite the fact that it can take up to 5 hours to reach the island from the mainland the island is extremely popular and can get crowded during the high season.

Hat Rin is situated on a cape jutting out from the southeast corner of Koh Phangan tip about 12 km from the district office. Formerly, it was not popular with tourists as it could only be reached by boat (no road) and boasted a welcoming army of gnats. That's all changed; today, visitors drive down to Hat Rin and the gnats have largely moved on.

In Hat Mae Hat on the island's tranquil northwestern tip, accommodation is plentiful. This is a charming area with a long, powdery-sand beach safe for swimming. It is an ideal place to relax or sunbathe. The most outstanding feature in this area is the neighboring island of Koh Ma, accessible by foot across a sandbar. Koh Ma is the site of a splendid coral reef frequented by tourists who enjoy swimming and diving around this island.

The Tourism Training Network Division, Product Promotion Department, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), cooperated with Than Bokkhorani National Park, Ao Luek District, Krabi Province, in the survey of the Than Bokkhorani National Park on 16-17 December 2007. This aimed at collecting data on tourism marketing, its potential and difficulties. After that, the data were analysed in order to obtain guidelines for the promotion of tourism product quality and marketing in the area as an ecotourism destination for foreign tourists. As a result of the survey, TAT will work together with relevant stakeholders to initiate a model of quality tour programmes focusing on expanding value-added tourism products and services of Krabi Province. This will contribute to the creation of the tourism marketing position and brand for the province to be a quality destination.Then, the quality tourism products and services will be proposed to proper and quality tourism markets. At present, Than Bokkhorani National Park occupies a variety of attractions including natural trails, waterfalls, mangrove forests, Tham Lot, Tham Phi Hua To (a cave with prehistoric paintings) and Mu Ko Hong (limestone islands with crystal clear water, fine beaches and coral reefs). The islands are suitable for snorkelling and sea-canoeing and open only for one-day trippers. OLD PHUKET TOWN FESTIVAL 2008

Phuket’s tribute to its baba heritage will take centre stage with the holding of the 10th Old Phuket Town Festival, to be organized by the Phuket Municipality in conjunction with the TAT, the Old Phuket Foundation, and the baba community.
Although dates and programme have yet to be finalized, Deputy Mayor Kawee Tansukatanum said the festival will be organized over three days in conjunction with Chinese New Year, which in 2008 falls on 7 February. Its programme will be similar to the successful event in 2007, with Thalang Road and Soi Romanee turned into walking streets for visitors to learn more about the baba culture and cuisine. There will be exhibitions about Old Phuket, products for sale, jazz in Soi Romanee, boat rides along Bang Yai canal, light and sound shows in the grounds of Chinpracha House, and most certainly a procession of residents in Phuket baba dress culminating at the giant dragon in Queen Sirikit Park at the beginning of Thalang Road.

Old Phuket Town dates back to the tin mining days of a century ago, when Chinese immigrants sought to make their fortunes from this precious ore.

For millions of international visitors, Phuket is an island paradise, wrapping sun, sand and sea into a glamorous package that attracts them back again and again. However, 150 or so years ago, the island attracted visitors of a different sort – Chinese migrants seeking to make their fortunes from Phuket’s lucrative tin mining industry.

Many were from the Fujian area of China, bringing with them their Hokkien culture and language; others were from nearby Penang, as well as traders from Malaysia, India and the Straits Settlements. Together they forged Phuket Town, channelling tin, goods and money through the port in Tongkah Bay in ever growing amounts.

Some gained mine concessions, making fortunes and establishing family dynasties on the island. They built huge mansions, similar to the colonial properties in Penang, and wore European clothes. Others set up trading companies and shops-cum-homes along Thalang Road, Old Phuket’s main commercial centre, and adjacent streets.

Today, tin mining has virtually ceased due to low tin prices and high extraction costs. In its place, the descendents of the tin pioneers have, like alchemists of old, transmuted cheap metal into gold – tourism gold. Degraded tin mines have been turned into lucrative attractions – the luxury resorts of Phuket Laguna, Blue Canyon Golf Club, Phuket Country Club and Phuket Boat Lagoon have all been built on top of mined-out land.

And the shophouses and mansions that line the roads of Old Phuket Town have become a fascinating tableau of discovery for travellers wanting to learn more about the heritage and culture of the early tin pioneers.

Koh Phangan whilst still a beautiful and tropical paradise Island is probably more renowned for the party scene and in particular the Full Moon Party that is pretty much a monthly occurrence. However, the parties do not stop at the Full Moon! There are half-moon and black-moon parties to keep the party scene moving and to keep Koh Phangan's reputation of a party paradise.

The Full Moon parties actually started by chance back in 1989 on Haad Rin beach when a local resident decided to throw a birthday party for an Australian friend of his. By chance, this birthday fell on a night of a Full Moon and was attended by about 50-people who spent the night dancing around beach camp fires and partying until the early hours of the morning. It was agreed that the Full Moon had somehow turned this party into much more than just another birthday party!

From then on, people began to meeting monthly at every Full Moon and throw huge parties which has now led to the world famous Full Moon party that is attended by anywhere between 10,000 to 30,000 people per month on the Haad Rin Beach.
Location Information

Koh Phangan located in Suratthani Province is amongst the well-known group of the Samui Archipelago of Islands such as Koh Tao and Koh Samui itself.

Although Koh Phangan has only recently become one of the most popular Islands in SE Asia due to its famous Full Moon Parties, the history of the Island goes back some 2,000 years!!!

The Island has in fact been inhabited by sea gypsies from the Malaysian peninsular and latterly by Chinese merchants who carved out a living from fishing and harvesting the vast natural resources from the Island .

The king's love of the Island is very clear and he left his royal seal engraved on a rock at the Thaan Sadet Waterfall. Even today, Koh Phangan has real significance with the current Royal Thai family and in particular; King Bumivol who has made several visits to Koh Phangan. In fact, Koh Phangan continues to be of real significance to all Thais and they have gracefully allowed tourists over the last 20-years or so to enjoy this beautiful tropical Island .

Wow! This place is absolutely stunning. It has style, it has charm. And it’s got the best location in town. The food’s excellent too. And they’re just some of the attractions of Red Snapper Bar & Grill.

Set along a 50-metre road frontage, next door to Chaweng Regent Beach Resort in the heart of Chaweng is one of Samui’s most extraordinary restaurants. And the reasons why it’s so special become apparent immediately.

One reason is the many choices of where to sit. Maybe along the 20-seater exterior terrace that’s shielded from the pavement by a long line of bullrushes? They’re growing from pots immersed in an aquaduct, which spans the entire frontage (you can still see the passersby clearly, but they can’t see you, unless they stop and stare). Or perhaps in the 60-seater air-conditioned restaurant itself with its clean, modern lines and various water-features, including a unique pebbly waterfall that cascades down the side of a wall?

And if you’re there just to have a drink (with or without a snack), or if you’re waiting for a table, there’s a spacious lounge too. Comfy sofas here-and-there dotted amongst huge, wicker-sculptured pillars. The décor’s not bland either. Pot-plants, intricately-carved murals, discreet lighting, flagstone flooring - they all play their part.

Next we have the staff. And they are definitely worth mentioning at Red Snapper Bar & Grill because the service is decidedly 5-star. From the Restaurant Manager herself – Khun Ya – through to the numerous waiters and waitresses, NOTHING is too much trouble. And those smiling faces really do make a difference to an evening out!

Sound good so far? Sounds better when you hear the music. And when it’s not a perfect mix of Latin and Jazz coming from the stereo system, it’s the real thing! Six nights a week there’s an exciting three-piece band from Columbia, appropriately named – Columbia.

And they keep everybody entertained continuously from 9:00 pm until 1:00 am (the restaurant’s open from 5:00 pm - 2:00 am). There’s plenty of room for dancing here too, and many do.

Even if there weren’t any of the above attractions, it would be worth coming to Red Snapper Bar & Grill just for the food. In fact if you had to sit in a box and eat, I’d still recommend it! It really is that good.

The general theme is Mediterranean, and here are a few of the many dishes worth trying. For starters: Pan-fried Scallop & Prawn Mille Feuille with sautéed spinach, green apple and chili lime vinagrette; Classic Smoked Norwegian Salmon with red onion, capers and horseradish sauce; and Red Snapper Fillets Lightly-breaded served on parsley potatoes, rocket leaves, black olives & roasted red capsicums couli.

Don’t think that the starters will be small portions, just appetizers. They’re not! So leave plenty of room for the mains, which are also a knockout, such as: Sautéed Fillet of Beef topped with king prawns and glazed with lobster jus; and the Slow-cooked New Zealand Lamb Shank on minted sweet potato and pumpkin mash with green peas. And if you’re a pasta fan then the Tagliatelle tossed with Salmon in a cream Chardonnay dill sauce will be of special interest to you.

And there’s a whole Char-grill section too! Grilled Whole White Snapper wrapped in a banana leaf with Asian spices; Char-grilled Pork Ribs coated with roasted peppers; and Seared Tasmanian Salmon rubbed with coarse pepper in a spicy sauce are but some of the dishes.

The menu describes the final course as ‘Wickedly Tempting Desserts’, which just about sums them up. What do you think? Here are a couple: Mascapone Tiramisu Mousse with Kahlua cream; and Wicked Rich Chocolate Cake with a rum chocolate sauce.

And I haven’t even mentioned the wines, coffees, cigars, spirits, cocktails etc. etc. etc.!

Chicago is an unobtrusive, intimate room that has an air of quiet elegance with a touch of simple charm. Comfortable chairs and muted colours add to the feeling of class. Every detail has been carefully thought out, resulting in a seamless setting for a great meal.

Following the overall simplicity of the room itself, the menu offers only nine entrees and five steaks along with a short list of soups and salads, appetisers and side dishes. A touch of Asian influence, as in tiger prawns with massamun curry and a few other items, is present here but in the main this is a traditional US-style steakhouse menu. Big steaks, potatoes, caesar salad, side orders of broccoli with Monterey jack cheese, onion, rings, even creamed spinach – all evoke an earlier time when steak was considered the best thing one could eat. The steaks here are certainly the best in the province. The 12-ounce rib-eye, for example, is perfectly cooked to a medium rare (or to your request) and flavourful with a light hint of herb seasoning. Pan-fried foie gras is another excellent example of the superb quality being offered here.

Owner/chef Jeffrey Lord is well lauded by fellow chefs and local clientele for his originality and focus on great taste combinations. His fusion food combines Californian and Asian flavours¡ with mixes of texture, tastes and zestiness. He personally selects all ingredients and supervises the creation of each dish. Starters include bitesize morsels of sesame-crusted salmon katsu served with a dollop of wasabi and delicate swirls of daikon radish; summer roll loaded with prawns, scallops and slivers of veg in a sesame sauce; and smoked pork in a light garlic, potato and apple curry. Portions are ample. For mains, choose from an array of meats, fish and seafood. Roast snow fish is delicate and flaky, served with crispy rice and green chilli/black bean sauce. Fig chutney and crispy potato tortellini complement roast salmon, and Argentine beef fillet is accompanied by peppercorn curry and roast potatoes. For sweets, orange and lime pudding cake or Belgian chocolate souffle are light and delightful finales to the meal.

Khao Namkhang National Park

Located in Nathawee district, some 96 km from Hatyai, this only one national park of Songkhla is an ideal place for nature enthusiasts. Providing not only the jungle but also waterfalls, the national park can easily attracts adventurers with its pure nature of the jungle. The national park offers two waterfalls namely "Tone Lard Waterfall" and "Tone Dard Fah Waterfall". The first waterfall is about 500 meters from the park's office. The last one situates some 2km from the office, on the way to the historical tunnel. Entrance fee to the national park is ranging between 20-200 Baht.
How to go there?

Topography
The park is a historical area - the battle field between the communist forces and the other armed parties. The communists digged 40 meters deep tunnel as a shelter and to keep weapon. Its year round cold weather gave it the name "Khao Nam Khang" (mountains with cold water). This 212 square kilometers park is in Song Khla province, and bordering Malaysia.

There is no direct transportation to the national park, our suggestion is that you join a group tour from a travel agency in Hatyai. If you drive, it can be accessed by two ways, the shortest way is to depart Hatyai for Sadao district, take the left turn at the junction exactly in front of the Sadao Government Offices. Then, just follow the road for some 26km to the park. Or you may head for Amphoe Nathawee, and just about 200 meters further from the Nathawee Government Offices is a junction. Turn right and head for Ban Prakop. After some 26 km, you will find a local market on the right at "Wat Saton", the direction signboard on the roadside is available. Turn right there and keep going along the road, you will finally reach the national park.

The Thaksin Folklore Museum

The Thaksin Folklore Museum of the Institute for Southern Thai Studies, Tambon Koh Yoh, Muang District, Songkhla Province is a folk museum created to reflect the way of life of the Southern Thai people, Their unique customs, their history and archeology, and their handiworks. It provides a cultural heritage demonstrating the wisdom of the peoples who inhabit the Southern Thai region.

Awarded the Thailand Tourism Award 2000 outstanding performance, and the best cultural tourist attraction, the folklore museum of the Institute for Southern Thai Studies boasts the most interesting museum of southern Thailand and the biggest treasure storage of southern Thai studies.
Cultural heritage and ancient objects collected from southern Thailand are exhibited in topics at various rooms.
It takes some 1-2 hours to explore every collection room. Visiting the place can be a physical exercise as the museum is located on a mountain, and the exhibition rooms are situating up or down the slopes of the hill.
The institute’s main interests are the collections in the museum, but the viewpoints at the outer area are nice too.
The tower-top viewpoint offers the aerial view overlooking the second part of Tinsulanonda Bridges and partially scenic view of Koh Yor.

How to go to Koh Yaw?
It is situated on Koh Yaw in Songkhla Lake, so one may try the long-tail boat trip from the pier near Songkhla Post Office that takes about 30 minutes to the island.
It is about 20 km from Hatyai and there is no really the direct transportation except you rent one. Better take the Hatyai-Songkhla bus and get off at the big intersection at “Ban Nam Krajai” or often known as “Si Yaek Koh Yor” (Koh Yor intersection).
Then you have to change to a “Song Thaeo” pick-up truck that is often waiting for passengers along the roadside to Koh Yor (about 10 Baht/person).

The Phuket King's Cup Regatta held in honour of His Majesty the King of Thailand to commemorate His Majesty's birthday on December 5th has become the biggest sailing event in Asia. With participants from all over the world converging on Phuket to race in Asia's most prestigious regatta, the event offers five days of great sailing off Phuket's West Coast.

The Phuket King's Cup Regatta, Asia's biggest and most popular regatta, is the jewel in the crown of the Asian Yachting Circuit, a circuit of the leading regattas in Asia including the Raja Muda International Regatta, the Singapore Straits Regatta and the China Sea Race. More than a regatta, the week long event consists of great parties, great sailing and lots of fun.
Inaugurated in 1987 to celebrate the sixtieth birthday of His Majesty the King of Thailand, the event has been held during the first week of December every year since. With the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King, the Regatta is organized by the Phuket King's Cup Regatta Organizing Committee under the auspices of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, in conjunction with the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, the Royal Thai Navy and the Province of Phuket.
The 2007 Phuket King's Cup Regatta is set to kick off to another spectacular year, bringing record numbers again this year to Phuket for a week of sun, sailing and celebration. Literally, “kao” is a Thai word for “nine”, “seng” might be derived from “saen”, meaning “a hundred thousand”. So the “Koa Seng” might truly refer to a treasure of 900,000 Baht (it should be of higher value now).
The scenery from the rock, within the compound of a Buddhist temple there, is quite an impressive one. Just imagine, in a nice sunny day, facing the right view standing a view of the rock itself and the sea, and to the left is another beautiful view of the rock, the sea, fishing boats, and Kao Seng Beach. The Cat and Rat Islands can be seen at a far distance beyond the rock.
Entering the temple compound, you should behave properly because the rock is also within the Buddhist monks' sacred place.
How to get there?
Regular Hatyai-Songkhla bus is the cheapest way to get to Songkhla. Take it and get off at the Kao Seng intersection. It is about 1 km from the intersection to the beach and about 1.5 km to the rock. Turning right into a small concrete road. You may take a motorbike taxi that cost about 10 Baht/person.

Travel Guide to Had Yai

Had Yai is the commercial centre of Southern Thailand and a popular weekend destination for visitors from Malaysian. It is located 1300km from Bangkok and about 50km from Pedang Besar on the Malaysian border.

The city itself is not particularly interesting but it is a good place to go shopping if you are staying in nearby Songkhla.

Getting There

Buses from Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal leave twice per day for the 15 hour journey to Had Yai. There is a regular bus service to Songkhla which takes about 45 minutes, and a daily service to Phuket taking about 6 hours.

Several trains leave Bangkok's Hua Lampong Station each day and take about 18 hours to reach Had Yai. Thai International have daily flights from Bangkok which take 1¼ hours.

Taxis and buses are available at Pedang Besar on the Malaysian border for the one hour journey to Had Yai. The Singapore-Bangkok Express also stops at Had Yai.

Getting around

Songthaews cruise around the city and charge a small fee for destinations along their route. Taxis are also available for longer journeys or trips to Pedang Besar.

Hat Thai Muang
This is located in the vicinity of Thai Muang Sanitary area where a 1.5 kilometers asphalt road branches off on the right to join the beach road. From November to February, sea turtles will come up to the beach for laying eggs.

Trains for Hua Hin leave Hua Lampong Station in Bangkok several times a day and take about 4½ hours. At holiday times special excursion services are provided.

Chumphon can be reached by either bus or train from Bangkok.
Getting around

Samlors and songthaews are plentiful in all three resorts, but you will find most places within easy walking distance. Small motorcycles can be hired in Hua Hin and are a convenient way of exploring the surrounding area. Read the agreement carefully before signing. TAT ORGANISING ANNUAL RAIL TOUR TO ELEPHANT ROUND-UP

Friday, October 12, 2007 — The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is organising a railway tour covering the annual Elephant Round-up Festival in Surin Province as well as major attractions in the Northeastern region, the culturally diverse bridgehead to the neighbouring countries of Lao PDR and Cambodia.
The three-day two-night tour will be organized during 16-18 November 2007, in cooperation with the State Railways of Thailand, Association of Thai Tour Operators, Association of Domestic Tour Operators, Thai Ecotourism and Adventure Travel Association, Thai Tourism Promotion Association, and Association of Thai Travel Agents.
According to TAT Governor, Mrs. Phornsiri Manoharn, “This tour to the Annual Surin Elephant Round-up Show has been organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand since 1960.
“It is designed to promote domestic tourism and better distribute income to local regions, particularly in the northeast of Thailand. It also promotes travelling by train which helps to offset its environmental impact,” she said.
The Elephant Round-up, one of Thailand’s most historic and memorable events, is considered the most popular festival of northeastern Thailand. It recognises the important role that elephants have played in Thai history and culture.
More than 100 elephants take part in a display of grace, strength, and intelligence in games of soccer, log-carrying, and a tug-of-war against human teams.
On the evening of Friday, November 16, participants will depart from Bangkok Railway Station by Express Train No. 67 to Surin. After arriving in Surin early November 17 morning, they will have breakfast at Rajamangala University of Technology (Surin Campus) and then proceed directly to the Elephant Round-up.
Later the same day, they will visit the Chan Sopha Silk-weaving Group which is well-known for its fine gold brocade work. This village was chosen to weave the fabric for the silk shirts worn by delegates of the APEC summit in Thailand in 2003 as well as produce silk shawls as souvenirs for royal guests on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary Celebration of His Majesty the King’s Accession to the Throne in 2006.
In Buri Ram, they will also visit Phanom Rung Historical Park, the ancient Khmer sanctuary situated on an extinct volcano, at a height of approximately 200 metres. The tour will depart from Buri Ram Railway Station at 2045 hrs and return to Bangkok on Sunday, November 18, 2007, at 0550 hrs. Space is available for about 160 people, at a cost of 3,970 Baht per person, which includes transportation fee, meals, and entrance fee for the Elephant Round up Show and Phanom Rung Historical Park. Naklua Beach in Chonburi

In Naklua, the northern part of Pattaya where also a lot of Thai-families spending their holidays, live is much more quiet than on other beaches. The former fishing village is now the commercial center of Pattaya featuring a lot of Condominiums, apartment houses stores and markets, where the local population are going shopping. In even some Sois, live is rural.

There are three main areas in Pattaya. Pattaya Beach is the central stretch of coastline that supports some of ‘raunchier’ aspects of local tourism; bars, restaurants, go-go – pretty much a hedonist’s paradise! Jomtien Beach is much more laid back, offering family friendly establishments and excellent windsurfing. Naklua Beach is the most northerly of the bays and by far the quietest.
Naklua is much smaller than its neighbours and it does not suffer from the mass development Pattaya Beach has experienced. Like Jomtien it is more family friendly. The Pattaya municipality spent 1.8 million Baht on cleaning up the waters around Pattaya, and in Nakula it is now possible to see fish in the water. This makes bathing in the sea a genuine pleasure. Nakula is also a centre for windsurfers and windsurfing equipment can be hired from the beach.
How to get there: Once again the Songtaew ‘Baht Buses’ are the most convenient way to get to Nakula.

Jomtien Beach :: Chonburi

Featuring a long straight coastline and long white sand beach, Jomtien Beach is located around 2 kilometers from its less salubrious neighbour – Pattaya Beach. Whereas Pattaya Beach is more geared for the party animal, Jomtien Beach has carved a niche as a more ‘family-friendly’ environment. Like its neighbour, Jomtien Beach is popular for water sports such as jet skiing, but with water that is considerably less murky, it is also a much more attractive location for swimming. Given its natural wind conditions and calm sea, Jomtien Beach is also a destination of choice for wind surfers, and a number of instructors work from the area. Jomtien features every conceivable type of accommodation available to those who want to stay in the area. Like Pattaya Beach, Jomtien hosts an expatriate community but doesn’t have the edge Pattaya Beach does. It does though have just as many great restaurants offering cuisine from every corner of the globe. It also has as many hawkers, plying anything from peanuts and fruit to pictures of the king and massages. They can prove annoying when you are trying to relax, but again, on Jomtien even this is not as hardcore as Pattaya Beach.

How to get there: Just like everywhere else in Pattaya, Jomtien is easily accessible through the multitude of Songtaews that continually move around the ring roads that encircle the coastal areas. A trip is 20 Baht wherever your start or finish.

Klong Muang Beach
    Klong Muang is undisturbed - almost available solely for its exclusive guests and a few fishermen. The beach seems to go on forever along the coast, with a small island at one end - home to local seabirds and rockpools full of life. It's the kind of beach, to just sit and contemplate, especially at sunset. Dozens of tiny islands lie dotted on the horizon and to the south, at Laem Ham Nak, is a Royal residence of the Princess.
    The local village at the back of the beach is still in its infancy with a few shops, including the obligatory tailor's shop and a handful of restaurants. Nightlife is minimal, if you want loud music, head into Ao Nang.
    In Klong Muang, it's excellent food, good company, and a moonlight stroll along the beach, rather than a vibrant nightlife that's on the menu, but then Klong Muang is maintaining a low profile, which is why the five star hotels are located there.

Mai Khao Beach

Located in the Nai Yang National Park, Mai Khao Beach at the northern end of Phuket Island has a total length of nine kilometers and is the longest beach on Phuket. It is a place full of peace and serenity to the visitor.
Mai Khao is one of the few beaches in Thailand, where still sea turtles land to lay their eggs. They can be occasionally sighted by divers in the area.
To prevent the numbers of sea turtles from dwindling further, there are annual efforts to protect the beach in the nesting season between November and February. On Songkran, the nationwide Thai water festival on April 13, baby turtles are released into the sea at various locations.
Because of its remote location, there is almost no development, so if you are in search of a remote and isolated beach for yourself, this is it. Camping is allowed at various locations on the beach within the campgrounds.
This beach can be highly recommended for just relaxing, walking on the sand or combing the beach for shells. Caution is advised for swimming however, since the beach has steep shelving sands at the waterline.

Visitors to this beach can find a special kind of shellfish here, named Sea Cicadas (Chakkachan thale), which are found in mass under the sand and only in this locality. The body of this crustacean is oval with short legs, reminiscent of a crab. In many restaurants in Phuket, these Sea Cicadas are among the secret delicacies that the visitor should not miss, since they prove to be a tasty meal when fried in butter or as the ingredient of a spicy salad.

Similan Islands

This group of rocks and islands lies 90 minutes by speedboat off the coast of Phang-Nga, or eight or more hours by slow boat from Phuket. The area was declared a marine national park in 1982 and consequently remains largely undeveloped. Derived from the Malay term sembilan, meaning 'nine', Similan refers to the nine main islands in the group.
The waters surrounding the Similans are teeming with tropical fish, colourful coral, and offer exceptional underwater visibility. As a result, the diving is generally considered to be the best in the region, and compares favourably with some of the best in the world. (see more about diving here).
Part of the reason for this is the very interesting submarine topography, due in part to the huge granite boulders which not only litter the shorelines, but also lie in jumbled heaps beneath the waves to depths of 35 metres and beyond. On surface the boulders, together with the lush rainforest and white sand beaches, provide a peaceful refuge.

The islands attract an increasing number of visitors annually, particularly during the high season months between December to March, when the visibility of waters surrounding the islands is at its best.
Day trips to the islands for diving and snorkelling are popular, however serious divers are recommended to come on liveaboard trips to take full advantage of all the islands' have to offer in terms of diving opportunities.
Dive companies operating from Phuket and Phang-Nga offer a number of tour itineraries with diving instruction for beginners. For budget travellers, the Similan Islands can be reached via national park service boat from the pier at Thap Lamu or by boat from anywhere along Hat Khao Lak. Boat charters can also be organised, costs depending on the quality and speed of the vessel and the number of persons to travel.
Limited accommodation – in the form of tents and bungalows – is available on Koh Miang (Island 4), where the National Park headquarters are based. There’s also a small gift shop and restaurant, but it is advised to come prepared with a flashlight and bug spray if intending to overnight there. Koh Phi Phi (Phi Phi Islands)

Regarded by travelers from all walks of life as being among the most beautiful tropical islands of the world, Phi Phi Islands have become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Thailand. In addition, the islands are famous as the location where the movie "The Beach" featuring Leonardo Di Caprio was shot. The islands, together with the nearby Noppharat Thara Beach, a total area of 390 square kilometers, were recently established as a national park.

Phi Phi Islands are located just 40 kilometers away from both Krabi and Phuket. Thus, despite the fact that both Noppharat Thara Beach and Phi Phi administratively are a part of Krabi Province, most tourists think that Ko Phi Phi is part of Phuket Province.

The islands and the coastal hills are composed mainly of limestone and are an extension of the limestone mountain range in Phang-Nga Province. The main characteristics of these mountains and islands are their steep cliffs, large caves and dwarf trees growing out of the rock crevices, like those in Phang-Nga Bay.

The island group is composed of two rocky, tree-covered islets Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Le. Phi Phi Don, the larger islet to the north, is well known for its fine beaches and coral formations. Above average tourist facilities and accommodations are available along two beautiful curved bays, namely Ton Sai Bay and Lodalam Bay. Several shops at Ton Sai can arrange diving and snorkeling trips around the island or the nearby islands - Ko Phi Phi Le, Ko Yung and Ko Mai Phai.

About 2 kilometers to the south is Phi Phi Le. Contrary to Phi Phi Don, this islet is uninhabited as there is no beach area as the island descends abruptly into the sea on all sides and it is prohibited by the administrative body. The main attraction is a large cave about 3.2 square kilometers in size known as Viking Cave derived from one of the numerous drawings on the wall which resembles a Viking ship. The cave has a 10 to 15-metre high ceiling which contains many ledges inhabited by thousands of swallows, thus a bird's nest collection demonstration is a regular feature of guided tours.

Ao Maya and Ao Lo Sama - Phi Phi Islands scenic coves are favorite snorkeling places while the sea around the islands, especially the southern part, which are deep and full of coral formations are popular diving spots. With its emerald crystal sea, secluded beaches, mountain cliffs, colorful coral reefs and undersea life, Phi Phi is a paradise in the Andaman Sea. The best time to visit Phi Phi Islands is from November to April, when the sea is calm.

Ko Yung, an island to the north of Ko Phi Phi Don, has a stone beach on the east and small sandy beaches amid valleys. In addition, the island is teeming with diverse colorful coral reefs. Ko Phai, another island to the north of Ko Phi Phi Don and not far from Ko Yung, has spectacular beaches in the north and east of the island. The bank of coral reefs comprised mainly of antler corals stretches from the north to the south of the island.

Phi Phi Islands which are equidistant to Phuket and Krabi Provinces can be reached by boat.

From Krabi

Chao Fa Pier: Passenger boats leave Chao Fa Pier twice daily at 10 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. The trip takes about 2.30 hours.

Ao Nang: There is one express boat trip leaving daily at 9 p.m. taking 40 min.

Karon Beach is a long gently curving beach of small sparkling white sand dunes, crisp clean water and a few evergreen trees.

As you circle the roundabout, you can go east through the village and you will be on the main highway running east and west across the island, or you can continue south along the road to Kata beach and the rest of the south coast beaches.

In the past years, many resorts and large hotels opened almost everywhere, with unique views on the bay. Recently paved, the long beach front offers an excellent walk to choose among the many restaurants serving seafood. Patong Beach is the most active beach in Phuket. Recently upgraded from "Village" to the status of "City". Famous for its long sandy beach but also for its famous hyper active nightlife, patong has the largest concentration of visitors on Phuket Island.

Patong Beach is a public beach, there are no closed or reserved areas. In practice however, most of the beach has been staked out by private vendors who will rent you a long chair and shade umbrella for 50 Baht per person. Pay your money take your seat and let the show begin.

Venders selling everything including massage services, food, beverages, fresh fruit, clothes, jewelry, electric power tools, etc. will beat a path to your chair. One intrepid vender of note has been sighted pushing a cart full of "folding step ladders" down the place. To prevent that boring serenity that many seek from a beautiful tropical setting, here you will be treated to the sight and sound of numerous jet skis (500 Baht per hour), para-sailing (500 Baht), and any number of other small water craft with large motors.

Those seeking a less commercial and quiet atmosphere may want to head north on the seaside road a short distance to the intersection with Phrabarami Road (which means "road constructed through Royal influence") the main road to Phuket Town. Here the seaside is strewn with large granite boulders that deter all but the most determined venders and offers an opportunity to comb for small seashells that often wash ashore here.

Just around the rock outcroppings to the north is the much quieter Kalim Bay. On the South end, near the bridge connecting to the Coral Island Resort are a group of long tail boats for hire.

History in koh Tao

Koh Tao, little more than 21 km, is located about 70 km east of the coastline between Suratthani and Chumphon, in the Gulf of Thailand. Koh Tao translates as Turtle Island, because in the past the waters teemed with sea turtles. Nowadays they have moved on to new breeding grounds since travelers and tourists enjoy Koh Tao's beaches instead.
In the beginning, the island was uninhabited, and only the occasional fisherman from the neighbouring islands came by to seek shelter from a storm. On June 18, 1899, His Majesty the King Chulalongkorn (Rama V , 1868-1910) visited Koh Tao and left as evidence his monogram on a huge boulder at Jor Por Ror Bay next to Sairee Beach. This place is still worshipped today and should be treated with respect.

From 1933 on the island was used as a political prison because of it's far distance from the mainland. In 1947, Khun A -Paiwong, Prime Minister at that time, pleaded and received a royal pardon for all prisoners on the island. Everybody was taken back to the mainland and the "Turtle" was abandoned once again. Not for long.
In the same year Khun Ueam and his twin brother Khun Oh reached Koh Tao from the neighbouring island Koh Phangan, At that time, crossing over with a traditional sailboat was long and dangerous.
It took more than 12 hours crossing over from Koh Phangan, which is just 45km away. Even though the island was still under royal patronage, it didn't keep these pioneers from claiming a good piece of land on today's Sairee Beach for themselves. Together with them came their families, and they began to cultivate and harvest the fertile soil.
The first generation of today's community had settled! They lived a very simple and tough life harvesting coconuts, fishing and growing vegetables, which were traded with Koh Phangan. Despite the many difficulties in reaching the island, the population grew steadily.

About 15 years ago, the first backpackers arrived from Koh Phangan. Rumours spread quickly about the islands unspoiled beauty, especially it's marine life and coral reefs . Since then, the number of visitors has increased rapidly, from fewer than 50 a day a decade ago to more than 200 a day (2002). It soon became one of the major dive sites in Thailand and SE-Asia, attracting beginners and professionals alike. The local businesses expanded immediately in order to catch up with the needs of the new clientele. The island today, though still remaining an absolute paradise, caters to all tastes and budgets.
At the present time, Koh Tao evolved into a haven for divers, adventurers, travelers and holidaymakers from around the world. The island's unique blend of coral reefs, natural & unspoiled beauty, and relaxed life-style makes it a 'must-have-seen-it' place !

Getting There

From Krabi
A regular ferry operates twice daily from the new passenger terminal at Khlong Chilat, located approx. 3 kms west of the town centre. Boats depart at 10:30 and 13:30. and arrive at Saladan (the northern tip of Ko Lanta) about 2 hours later.

From May to October the boats from Krabi to Ko Lanta do not operate due to strong winds and high waves in the monsoon season. During this time, public minibuses take over the transportation between Krabi and Ko Lanta

From Trang
Access by road from Trang is easy. An extensive network of local buses, ferries and private transport operates throughout the province. Public minibuses leave daily at 12:00 opposite the train station in Trang Town. During high season additional buses leave at 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 13:30 and 15:30 from Trang. You can book a seat at any of the local tour agencies. Journey time approx. 2½ hours to Ko Lanta.

From Phuket
There is no direct ferry from Phuket to Lanta.
Take a ferry (2 per day, morning and evening) to Phi Phi Island and then from Phi Phi to Lanta. (Ferries operate high season only. - Nov - April.)

Getting there from Pattaya
FerryKoh Lan is 45 minutes by ferry from Pattaya. A ferry leaves South Pattaya pier daily from 10 a.m. until 6.30 p.m. One-way fare is 20 baht. On return, the ferry leaves Ko Lan's Na Ban Beach at 12 noon and 2 p.m.
SpeedboatSpeed boat operators can be found the length of Beach Road. Negotiate and settle on a price before boarding the boat. The journey from Pattaya to Koh Lan by speedboat takes about 15 minutes. A good price to charter a speedboat is about 1200 -- 1400 Baht.

Situated in Tambon Koh Phra Thong and covering an area of 84,375 rais (33,750 acres), Mu Koh Surin is an archipelago of 5 islands: Koh Surin Nuea, Koh Surin Tai, Ko Ri, Koh Khai, and Ko Klang. It was declared a national park on July 9, 1981. The archipelago is located in the Andaman Sea, near the Thai-Burmese sea border, to the west coast of Thailand. There are beautiful and unspoilt coral reefs; the area is suitable for snorkelling. The best time tovisit is from November to April.

Koh Surin Nuea has several bays. The most well-known bay is Ao Mae Yai, the largest bay that offers calm waters. To the southeast of Koh Surin Nuea lies Ao Luek, which is so deep that the sea appears dark green, offering splendid shallow corals as well as sea weeds, sea flowers, coral lines, and various species of fish. Sea Gypsy Village, a Singha, or Morgan, Sea Gypsy tribe resides on the shore of Hat Sai En, Koh Surin Nuea. There are 130-150 sea gypsies who still hold on to their traditional ways of life and still live in their boats. On shore, there is a wooden sculpture resembling the Indian Totem Pole and is considered a sacred area. Every year, on the 15th day of thewaxing moon in April, the sea gypsies in this village would worship their respected spirits. The event lasts for 3 days. Ao Mai Ngam, situated to the west of Koh Surin Nuea with the National Parks office nearby. There is a 2-kilometre walking path that you can take to enjoy the natural features of Hat Mai Ngam or you can take a longboat ride. The lovely bay provides fresh water and a long beach that is best for snorkelling and swimming. Ao Chak, situated to the north of Koh Surin Nuea. The bay possesses unspoilt coral reefs.
Interesting attractions on Ko Surin Tai include Ao Tao, situated to the east of the island. The bay is home to numerous sea turtles and magnificent coral reefs. Ao Phakkat, situated to the south of Koh Surin Tai. It is where unspoilt coral reefs can be seen.
Koh Klang or Koh Pachumba has a scenic bay called Ao Mangkon. The bay is teeming with splendid coral reefs and many schools of various kinds of fish.Koh Khai or Koh Torilla, situated to the south of Koh Surin Tai. On the eastern side of the island there is a long stretch of unspoilt and picturesque coral reef. Snorkelling is the most recommended activity here.

How to Get There

Travelling to Mu Ko Surin can be initiated from several different points: - Khura Buri Pier is the nearest point to Mu Ko Surin. Khura Buri is some 125 kilometres north of Phang-nga. A boat trip takes around 4 hours. There is no regular boat service for travellers to Ko Surin. Boats leaving from Khura Buri are suitable for group tours.
Amphoe Kapoe Pier is in Ranong Province. The trip takes 7 hours. Visitors may contact Chansom Tara Hotel (tel: 0 7783 5317-9) which has boats leaving Chan Damri Beach for trips to Mu Ko Surin.
Note: The best way for individual travellers is to join a trip out of Phuket that includes Mu Koh Surin on the itinerary.This typically lasts at least 3 days and includes visits to Mu Ko Similan.

How to Getting to Koh Kood

From Bangkok to TRAT

IR Bangkok's Don Muang airport is as busy as any major international airport anywhere in the world and there are flights leaving and arriving every minute.
Bangkok Airways flies from Bangkok to Trat and from Trat to Bangkok PG311(10.20 am - 11.10 am) and PG317(5.00 pm - 5.50 pm). From Trat airport, limousine transfer to Koh Chang is available at 200-250 Baht per trip depending on the hotel you stay on the island. From neighbouring Chantaburi Province, you may take a share taxi with 5-6 passengers (about 1 ? hours) to Trat . Taxis leave from Nampu roundabout and the municipal market in town. Ordinary buses also run between Chantaburi and Trat (nearly 2 hours).(Tel. 0 2265 5678)

BY PRIVATE CAR

Trat is accessible by three main routes from Bangkok. Travelling time is about 4 hours.For convenience and better road surface use the elevated BANGKOK-CHONBURI TOLLWAY until its final exit or the BANGKOK-CHONBURI MOTORWAY and exit for BAN BUNG-KLAENG-CHANTHABURI.

ROUTE ONE
BANGNA-CHONBURI-BAN BUNG-KLAENG-CHANTHABURI-TRAT
DISTANCE : 315 KILOMETERS
This is the more preferred route with the following details:
(1) Take highway No.3 ( BANGNA-TRAT ROAD) until you reachthe Chonburi by-pass. You can either take the normal road or the new elevated BANGKOK-CHONBURI TOLLWAY which is right above it. Toll fee is 55 Baht.
(2) Exit from the main road,head to the left and follow the Chonburi by-pass that reads Pattaya-Rayong.
(3) Head for Rayong until you see the BAN BUNG-KLAENG-CHANTHABURI and the BANG SAEN-PATTAYA signboards.
(4) Take the BAN BUNG-KLAENG-CHANTHABURI route on your left.You are now on highway no.344
(5) Turn right at the BAN BUNG-KLAENG intersection and head for KLAENG only until you reach the CHANTHABURI-RAYONG junction.Take the left route to CHANTHABURI but do not enter the town which is on your right. This is again highway No.3. Instead go forward until you reach the SA KAEW-TRAT junction.
(6) Take the right turn and go all the way to the town of Trat.
(7) Alternatively, you can head directly to the three piers without passing through Trat town.Look for the signboard Laem Ngop at the LAEM NGOB-TRAT junction.Notice there is a PTT petrol station to your left before the junction.Turn right to LAEM NGOB.This is Highway no. 3156 (LAEM NGOB-SAEN TUNG ROAD).You will reach AO THAMMACHAT followed by CENTRE POINT and KROMALUANG CHUMPORN Piers.
ROUTE TWO
The Motorway is another alternative. Starting from Rama IX Road and onto Srinakarin Road, exit after paying the second toll that leads to Ban Bung, Klaeng, Chanthaburi and finally Trat. The total toll fee is 60 Baht
ROUTE THREE
BANGNA-CHONBURI-RAYONG-CHANTHABURI-TRAT
DISTANCE : 385 KILOMETERSThis is the other route using the same highway No.3 but takes longer as you need to pass through the province of Chonburi.
BY AIR-CONDITIONED BUS
1) The Ekamai Bus Terminal is the main terminal for the eastern provinces. It is located at the Ekamai section of Sukhumvit Road which is also easily accessible by the BTS Skytrain. Air-conditioned and ordinary buses depart almost every hour as shown in the timetable here. The trip is about 5 hours.
2) The Northern Bus Terminal (New Morchid) is the other route.It is located at New Morchid of Kampaeng Petch Road.Air-conditioned buses depart as shown in the timetable. The trip is also about 5 hours.

Going from Bangkok There are a couple of good options:

Flight There are many daily flights from the International and domestic Airport in Bangkok; Suvarnabhumi Airport (opened in September 2006). Bangkok Air flies direct to Samui Airport. A flight schedule with Bangkok Airways is found here. Thai Airways flies to Suratthani. From there, just catch the bus or taxi to the ferry in Donsak.

Bus If you want a more economical way to travel, take the VIP bus from the well-known Khao San Road or from the Southern bus terminal at Boromrat Chonnani Road. The VIP buses are more comfortable than the so called A/C bus. You can buy a ticket in almost every travel agency in Bangkok. Ferry is often included in the price.

Train Another great way to travel is the night train from Hualamphong, the Bangkok railway station, to Suratthani. The sleeping cars are comfortable. It is a little more expensive than the bus, but you will get a good sleep. Upper beds are less expensive than the lower ones. A private "first class" cabin for two persons, is also available.

Ferry The fastest ferry leaves from the two main piers in Donsak on the main land with operators like Seatran, and Raja Ferry. The price is about 110 baht. You will see many of the small surrounding islands if you don't fall asleep. You might also take the Lomprayah ferry from Chumpon.
